New Addition - Paintings

For the past couple of months I’ve been needing a creative outlet, so much, that I’ve turned to painting.
It’s funny how during these creative outlet moments I do different things. It’s like a craving. This month, my creative outlet screams photography. Next month it could be graphic art. Last month it was composing songs.

Well, yesterday I finished my second painting that I’m pretty proud of. The first one was finished around the end of January. One thing that I was taught at The Visual Arts Guild, is that if you don’t like a painting, you can always paint over it. Well, that’s true with these two canvases. I had something else on them and decided to paint over it. Even though the original artwork has a risidual effect, it’s ok, because it adds to the final piece.

img_2001_web.jpg Our living room has an Asain theme, inspired by a 300 year old kimono we have hanging on our dining room wall. The circle in the middle is gold leaf, surrounded by the color of stone, which is outlined in stone and gold metallic paints, which is of course offset by black.

img_2007_web.jpg The green one also has Asian influence, but I wanted to make the piece look like it was on a wall of an old house, and someone cut it out of the house to save it just before demolition. Crazy, I know, but I wanted that degraded/old/dirty/wall type feel. Why? I don’t know…just did. The prominent color is fossil green with stripped decoupage. The brown square outline mimics rust with a little verdigris. Silver leaf is added then rubbed off somewhat to give it that “stripped” feeling, then topped off with a gold leaf circle in the middle.

They are hanging in my home right now, but I will be putting them up for sale. I have to decide on a price and then I’ll list them.
